When people think about image, they think fashion, style, what’s in, what’s out. The truth is, image is not only about fashion. It’s about clothing, grooming, verbal and non-verbal communication - and how these parts can be put together to communicate your intention clearly. Since you are likely to receive news about fashion trends from magazines and TV shows, I will share with you in this article grooming tips instead, specifically for the face and head - details that people may not think too much about, but do affect your image greatly. Many little details put together become a general picture about a person - whether a person is powerful, wealthy, sexy, spiritual, or not.
Let’s start with the nose. Make sure the nostrils are clean before you step out of the door. If you have allergies, keep tissues and a pocket mirror with you always.
Facial hair. It is fine for men to have facial hair, as long as the hair is neatly trimmed, and free of debris. Make sure it is of a shape that complements the face. Think about the message your hair is communicating. Facial hair on a woman, however, is not a pleasant sight, as it is not associated with being feminine. I have seen too many women with a soft moustache. Pluck them. Wax them off. Shave them. You want people to see you and listen to you, not distracted by your hair.
Keep the hair on your head clean. It seems so simple, wash it when it is dirty. But so many people have been bought by the myth of not washing the hair every day to keep them from falling out, or that daily washing is too drying for the hair. Different people have different needs - some need to wash their hair daily; some twice a week. Run your fingers through your hair. If it’s not silky smooth, it’s time for a wash.
Now comes the breath. It is not as simple as popping into your mouth a breath mint or gum. I’m sure you have experienced someone talking to you with bad breath covered with mint - the bad breath is still detectable. The breath mint and gum are bad camouflage. Bad breath has much to do with the body’s condition. If your body is healthy, your breath is clean. Vice versa. Some foods may cause bad breath. So, when you are to meet someone important, cut down your intake of sugar, dairy and white bread. Do make sure you eat something though, as hunger may cause bad breath as well. It doesn’t hurt to brush your teeth and tongue before going to an important meeting.
All in all, take care of the little details of grooming. Who you are comes through not only from your words, but also how you look.

Good Homes Under $50,000?
My wife Ana and I found cheap homes for sale all over the country during a seven-week drive, and we even bought one along the way. It was in a pretty little town in the mountains of western Montana, and it cost us $17,500. We spent almost $2000 to fix it up the way we liked it, and lived there for several months before selling it for $28,000. Cheap Homes, Nice Towns: An Example
In Anaconda, Montana you can fly fish, go to a movie for three dollars in a beautiful old art-deco theatre (the 5th most beautiful theater in the country, according to the Smithsonian), drop some nickles in a slot machine (a dozen casinos), eat at a fine restaurant, stop by the bar for a dollar beer, and buy a house for sale under $30,000 - all within a four block area! There are good schools and churches, a library with fast internet service, and wildlife (including bears) a few hundred yards from downtown.
Why Are There Cheap Homes For Sale?
The reason there are so many cheap homes for sale in Butte and Anaconda, is that there aren’t many good jobs left. I personally found jobs in Anaconda easily-but not good ones. People left the area in the 80’s especially, after the mines and smelters closed. This exodus has left one-in-seven “housing units” in Anaconda vacant, according to the U.S. census. This has driven down the prices of homes dramatically. Since both towns still have all the basic ammenities, are cleaner now, and are slowly recovering, they are great places to retire to or to move to if you have an internet or other non-location-based business.
The economic situation is the primary reason that you can buy a cheap house in many parts of the country. These are towns that have seen troubled times, but are often recovering, and with good reasons. Anaconda, an example we know well, now has a ski resort,a Jack Nicholas golf course, and beautiful mountain scenery. The houses cost four times as much if you go an hour in any direction, and those higher prices are bound to reach Anaconda eventually.
Cheap Houses You Don’t Want To Buy
On the other hand, there are towns like the one in South Dakota where we stopped for lunch. The bulletin board had ads for cheap homes for sale, placed there by desperate home-sellers trying not to be the last to leave town. There was a photo of a beautiful old five-bedroom farmhouse for $11,000. We looked up the deserted street as we ate, and noticed that most of the buildings were boarded-up. This was a town that was clearly dying, and didn’t have anything to help revive it. Inexpensive homes are easy to find here, but I wouldn’t take one for free.
Cheap Homes For Sale In Paradise
Maybe paradise is too much to expect, but there are many wonderful towns, from Florida to Oregon, where there are cheap homes for sale. So what does a town need in addition to inexpensive houses in order to make our list? Well, the criteria are certainly subjective, but include at least the following:
1. Population between 4,000 and 80,000.
2. A good library.
3. A good grocery store.
4. A movie theatre.
5. Cheap houses: at least six for sale under $50,000.
6. The town “feels” good.
When we researched and built our website, we broke the towns up into two pages. One is for the towns with houses for sale for less than $50,000. The other is for the towns with really cheap homes for sale - under $30,000! Yes, they are still out there. HAVE A GREAT REASON.
See my previous entry “Great reasons to lose weight”. It’s essential to have a great reason to keep you going and keep you on track.
Give yourself 5 minutes. Sit down in a quiet place and write flat out. Use point form only as this will be quicker. Write down all the reasons you can think of.
Why do YOU want to lose weight? What will it mean to YOU? How will YOU feel when you reach your goal weight? I cann’t over emphasis this enough because when you have a strong motivating reason to do something you will be much more likely to achieve what you wish to do.
KNOW WHERE YOU ARE GOING.
How can you reach a goal if you have no idea of where you are going?
Get clear on this straight away. There is no point in going any further until you know where you are going.
What is your weight now? What is your waist measurement? Do you know what your current body fat percentage is? How many calories do I need just to sit around and do nothing all day? How much protein will my body need so I can lose weight and not feel hungry? What is my body fat percentage goal? What is my target waist measurement? What is my target weight and how long will it take me to reach it?
Make a “goals board”. Put it in a prominent place (e.g. in the kitchen) so you can see it many times each day. Add to it as you please. Cut out photos from magazines or make some drawings of your own. These will feature your goals. For example if you want to look great on the beach you might choose photos of people looking great on the beach because that’s your goal. You WILL look great and you” be wearing those board shorts or that bikini. Your goal may be to play sports with your kids. Chose happy photos of adults and children running and playing together. I think you get the idea. This is a fun thing to do so be creative! It’s your future so make it as colourful and beautiful and exciting as you can. Goal boards really do work. You tend to get the things you can picture in your mind and what you focus on. So focus on a healthier slimmer joyful you.
Know where you need to go. Get your goals sorted.

One thing that women in abusive relationships and their family and friends frequently request is ‘help’; help to change the situation. While I understand, and can relate only too well, to their sentiment, the term ‘help’ makes me feel uncomfortable.
Perhaps I can clarify what I mean with an example. A woman I know believes she has found her big idea and her mission. She is constantly looking for people to ‘help’ her to realise her dream. (She doesn’t feel that she can take charge of realising her dream herself.) So people constantly find her who promise help, but first expect her to help them - generally by paying significant sums of money towards some ill defined scheme of theirs; in very short order.
The problem with ‘help’ is when it is a cover for dependence. By ‘help’ we mean someone who will take at least partial responsibility for what we want to do. We look for this ‘help’, or powerful intervention, when we doubt our own adequacy.
Freeing yourself from an abusive relationship is no small matter. But looking for ‘help’ to do it, can lead to further disappointment. Unless you are clear about precisely what you mean and the limits of what you can expect, you may feel that what is out there is rather less than you were wishing for.
First off, any woman will need practical advice, about how to manage leaving the relationship. It is well worth becoming familiar with the information available through domestic violence organisations, like www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/domesticviolence.html.
Then, they will need practical support of the kind provided by a Refuge or Domestic Violence Support Group.
They will also need understanding of the trauma they have been through and the effect that it has had on them. They will need to understand that the very low opinion they have of themselves is all part of the trauma and can be reversed. An understanding of the mechanics of abuse is available through Domestic Violence Support groups and books such as Sandra Horley’s ‘The Charm Factor’ and Robin Norwood’s ‘Women Who Love Too Much’.
They will need to internalise how this applies to them. This tends to be a longer process, requiring in depth work with someone with an understanding of this particular field, someone who specialises in working with survivors of abusive relationships.
Finally, they need to learn how to recreate their faith in, and love for, themselves. They have to build a strong foundation of self-worth and self-trust. This may sound like the hardest part of all, but it doesn’t have to be. Once they have access to the appropriate tools, making the shift from hopelessness to self-realisation and positiveness becomes almost effortless.

If you earned revenues as an independent contractor in 2005, you
should have received a 1099 Form for the work. So, what if you
haven’t received one?
What To Do If You Didn’t Get a Form 1099
If you earned over $600 from one person or company as an
independent contractor in 2005, that company or person is
supposed to issue you a 1099-MISC form. The form is applicable
to revenues, rents, royalties and other categories of income
beyond the scope of this article. In issuing you a 1099-MISC,
the business or company is also supposed to send a duplicate of
the form to the IRS. This allows the IRS to keep a tab on how
much money you earned in 2005. Lucky you.
1099-MISC Forms are supposed to be issued to independent
contractors by January 31, 2005. Businesses, particularly small
businesses, are famous for failing to get the forms out on time.
They have to be filed with the IRS by the end of February, so
businesses often send them out at that time. If you haven’t
received a 1099 by the first week or so of March, it is time to
take action.
The first step to resolving the problem is to call the business
or person and ask about it. Some aren’t even aware they are
supposed to issue the forms and file them with the IRS. They are
focused on their businesses, not tax documents. Giving them a
heads up will almost always take care of the problem.
1099-MISC forms are not filed with your tax return. They are
information forms only, so failing to receive one is hardly the
end of the world. You should already know how much revenue you
earned in 2005. A 1099 form doesn’t really help you figure
taxes. It just keeps the IRS informed. If you don’t receive a
1099, you can determine your revenues by totaling invoices for
the client or reviewing bank account statements.
If you don’t receive a 1099 form, it does not mean you can forgo
reporting the revenue on your tax return. If you take this
course of action, you run the risk of being audited and charged
with tax evasion by the IRS. It isn’t remotely worth the risk.
