eHarmony.com Review

Posted by admin on August 11th, 2010 — Posted in Finding Partners, Gender Issues Information, Great Fun

eHarmony is one of the best-known online dating sites. The site is an excellent tool for meeting people online, but it does have some drawbacks. See below for the sites’s major pros and cons.

Pros:

1. Automatic Matches. eHarmony automatically matches you up with compatible dates. Unlike other websites where you have to scroll through thousands of profiles, eHarmony uses a lengthy proprietary questionnaire to gauge compatibility. It’s nice to know that a potential match is already pre-screened.

2. Guided Communication. eHarmony provides multiple rounds of guided communication. Once you have a match, you continue through a series of communication steps including multiple choice answers and open-ended questions. After three rounds of guided communication, you are free to message through eHarmony and set up an in-person date. For many people, this is much better than an open-ended messaging format where it is often difficult to start conversations with complete strangers.

3. Serious Users. eHarmony users are generally more serious than users on other dating sites. The lengthy questionnaire, higher subscription price and guided communication tend to attract users who are serious about finding a long-term mate. Many other dating sites tend to attract users who are more interested in one-night flings.

Cons:

1. No User Search. Although it is nice to have pre-selected matches, sometimes it would be great to be able to pick people out of eHarmony’s user base. Unfortunately, there is no search option. You are stuck with whatever matches eHarmony provides you.

2. Geographic issues. Although you can select how far you want your matches to live, eHarmony will often send matches that are a bit out of the way. This is especially an issue in major cities, where living far away is a major barrier due to traffic or public transportation issues.

3. The price. eHarmony is more expensive than other dating sites such as Match.com. Although you arguably get more support via matching and guided communication, the price can be difficult on the wallet. It is especially difficult to justify with the availability of free dating sites such as PlentyOfFish.com.

If you are interested in trying eHarmony, consider signing up for a free membership. A free membership allows you to post a profile and receive matches, but you must pay before communicating with a match. Or take advantage of one of the “Free Communication” weekends that are often advertised. You never know what could happen!

Halloween Party Food Ideas and Tips

Posted by admin on August 7th, 2010 — Posted in Best Lifestyle Resources, Great Fun, Misc

Frightful, wacky, mysterious, gooey and icky! Serve guests great halloween party food like a huge brain, peeled grapes as eyeballs and insects at your Halloween party. Of course, we’re proposing playful food that appears like body parts and creatures…did we mention Witches’ Fingers and Orange Pepper Jack-O-Lanterns filled with Black & Green Olive Tapenade. Peel a bunch of grapes and add to a bowl. Blind fold friends and make them to guess the body part using only their hands. A slimy bowl of eyeballs feels gross.

Halloween party finger food, literally. Form flavorful cookie dough into creepy witch fingers and use a blanched almond for the fingernail. It is certain to scare your friends into a celebratory mood! Cover your table with a dark tablecloth. Decorate the table with place cards made out of store bought mini sculls or tombstones. You will be astounded what you can find in your local shops lots of fun and affordable accessories. Sprinkle autumn foliage on your table and dine by candlelight by lighting your area with candles and homemade jack-o-lanterns in miscellaneous shapes and sizes. For a more different look to your pumpkins, you can spray paint the pumpkins black, gold or red.

Plan the feeling of a ‘haunted mansion’ from the time your guests arrive. Both on the outside and interior of your household, add ghoulish particulars to spookify your celebration. Out-of-door, have haunted organ music playing from the porch (or out a window). CDs are available online–look for music by “Midnight Syndicate” for some truly haunting melodies without cheesy canned screams. Use candlelight: try to eliminate electric lighting all over but perhaps in the kitchen. Candelabras, tea lights, and pillar candles should be strategically positioned in at least the front rooms.

It’s OK to Be Bluffed

Posted by admin on May 20th, 2010 — Posted in Free Games + More, Gambling, Great Fun

A good bluff works because it tells a story, one that suggests to the one being bluffed that his poker online hand is not strong enough to show down against the bluffer’s, and therefore forcing him to concede the match. Sometimes a person being bluffed can defeat the bluffer by replying with a bluff of his own, or by eliminating the bluff at its base by calling the decision down, but some situations are so well timed and aimed that this is nearly not possible. Sometimes it is OK to be bluffed. Learning to lay down poker hands when presented with a certain kind of story, with the proper odds and feelings placed behind the decision, mean simply that you are making a decision based on information. Even if you are technically folding the best hand, laying down in spots where you would often not have the best hand, and lose money by calling, means that you are exhibiting correct behavior, which over the long haul will pay off. Part of that behavior requires that sometimes you will lay down unnecessarily, but even then you aren’t quite wrong: you made the right choice at the wrong time. Move on to the next poker hand and think about the hand in its own light.

Risk Reward Concept

Posted by admin on January 14th, 2010 — Posted in Free Games + More, Gambling, Great Fun

Poker is a game that rewards calculated risk and punishes recklessness. In any given game, the player that utilizes the best stratagem for risk and reward, is usually rewarded more frequently. This can be shown mathematically through the concept known as variance. Let’s take a hand like AA. A player who plays AA strongly will, over the course of time, win more consistenly with it if he plays it strongly every time he gets it. The risks in the scenario are basically broken down into two categories. One is how much capital is risked (the bet) and two is how the hand is played (the strategy). If one opts to make a strong bet, driving other poker online players out of the pot, he is limiting the risk in his strategy. A big bet with AA, means less players are going to follow you to the flop, which means generally the pot is going to be smaller. However, because you cut down on the risk of being drawn out on due to variance and probability, you will be rewarded more often albeit in a smaller manner.

However, if you are dealt AA and you opt to limp in or make a much smaller bet preflop, and you allow more players to join you in the pot, the pot will be considerably larger by the time the river rolls around. You should note though, that the reward, while bigger, is less consistent. You are risking your equity in the hand by allowing more poker online players in the pot with your strong hand. With more players in the pot, there are more chances that one of them will draw to a stronger hand than your AA and thus you will be rewarded more when you do win but will be rewarded less often because you took a greater risk in playing the hand weakly.

You can take these concepts and apply them to any situation in poker. If the risk is greater, then the reward will also be greater, but the frequency of reward will be lower. These two concepts work on a continuum. So the next time you get a hand like AA or KK, think about the risk you’re willing to take, and then think about the reward you’re looking to gain. If you do the calculations based on this continuum, you will be able to easily decide if you want to gamble with more players to win a bigger pot, or gamble with fewer players but take down a smaller pot more often.
